Extra Sockets & Lighting in Walsall

Extra sockets, lighting, outdoor power and garden office supplies across Walsall and Bloxwich. Small jobs welcome, fixed prices, tested and certificated.

The smallest job on the list and the one people put off longest. Extension leads under rugs, a kitchen with two sockets behind the kettle, a garden office running off a lead through the back door — all of it fixable in a day and none of it worth living with.

In Bloxwich and the streets off the Stafford Road, the usual request is a kitchen fitted with half the sockets it needed, or a front room still lit by one pendant in the middle of the ceiling. Both are normally a single visit, and the circuit behind them is checked first so the extra load goes onto something that can carry it.

What's involved

Extra Sockets & Lighting in Walsall, done properly

Extra sockets

Put where you actually use them, on a proper circuit rather than spurred off a spur behind the washing machine.

Lighting

Downlights, outside lights, and replacing a fitting that has been dead since you moved in.

Garden offices and outbuildings

Supplied properly with its own protection and certification, not a lead through a window. Common on the Walsall estates, Beechdale and Mossley especially, where the gardens are long.

Outdoor sockets

Weatherproof and RCD protected, for the mower, the pressure washer and the Christmas lights.

USB and shaver sockets

Double sockets with USB outlets where the chargers actually live, and a proper shaver point in the bathroom instead of an adaptor.

Lighting circuits checked for an earth

Older lighting in the Walsall terraces often has no earth at the fitting, which matters for metal light fittings and is checked before a new one goes up.

Security and sensor lights

Outside lights on a sensor for the side passage and the back door, wired in properly rather than plugged in.

Extra Sockets & Lighting — your questions

Is it worth calling someone out for one socket?

Yes, and it costs less than people expect. Most small jobs are an hour or two and we would rather do three in a morning than have you running a lead under a rug for another year.

Do I need a certificate for a socket?

For notifiable work, yes, and we issue one either way. It matters most if you let the property or come to sell it.

Can you run power to a garden office?

Regularly. It wants its own supply, its own protection and a certificate — a long extension lead across a lawn is both a nuisance and genuinely unsafe in wet weather.

Can a dimmer switch go on any light?

Most, but not every bulb is dimmable and some LED fittings flicker on the wrong dimmer. The switch is matched to the lamps you have, so it dims smoothly rather than buzzing.

Can you add a socket in the bathroom?

A standard socket is not allowed close to a bath or shower, which is why bathrooms get shaver points instead. Where more power is genuinely needed, the options that meet the regulations are explained before anything is fitted.

Can outside lights go on a timer or a smart switch?

Yes. A timer, a light sensor or a smart switch can all be wired in, and it is worth deciding before the cable goes in, because a smart switch needs a neutral at the switch that older Bloxwich and Walsall houses often do not have.
